Defiance Middle School (grades 6-8) is a child-centered building with a student population of approximately 600 students. Each student will be offered four core subjects (language arts, math, science, and social studies). We also offer intervention teachers who work with our special needs students. The exploratory teachers work with all 3 grades in elective areas such as band, choir, art, health, computer, music appreciation, life skills and physical education. High school credit opportunities exist for qualifying 8th grade students in foreign language and algebra. Our staff of 40 teachers works hard to meet the needs of our students, prepare them for the Ohio Achievement Assessments, and educate the whole child.

Students have opportunities to get involved in activities beyond the school day as well.  We have two Quiz Teams, a Civic Oration speech contest, Spelling Bee and an active Student Council.  Our vocal and instrumental music departments are second to none and excel each year in area contests. Students who are interested in athletics also have a well-rounded array of sports from which to choose.  Click on our Athletics link for more detailed information.

As a parent, you can keep up with your child's academic progress on line.  Grades are updated by staff members weekly.  We also mail home interim reports and grade cards each quarter.  Parents may also contact the school at 419-782-0050 to set up a conference with any concern.

Defiance is not only a great place to live, but also a great place for children to learn!
