Defiance City Board of Education names Robert Morton as Superintendent

Defiance, OH – The Defiance Board of Education has voted to enter contract negotiations with Robert Morton, the district’s current high school principal, to become superintendent.  Should a contract be ratified by both parties, Morton will take over upon the retirement of current superintendent Mike Struble in July.

"The search identified a number of qualified candidates from a pool interested in the position”, said Board President Garry Rodenberger. “After a thorough process, which included school and community focus groups, a professional screening, extensive reference checks and staff and community interviews the board has agreed Bob is the best person for this job.”

“We’re pleased to offer this contract to Mr. Morton. He’s been a long-time staff member in our district and continues to share his energy and enthusiasm with students and staff members.  The board felt his diverse experience and deep community roots were a distinct advantage,” Rodenberger said.

"We had a number of excellent interviews and had three outstanding finalists.  Each of the three presented the board great opportunity and experience.  This choice has been deeply considered.”

Morton should begin his official duties as superintendent on August 1, 2019. The Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) assisted the Defiance schools in the search.  OSBA is in its 63rd year of service to public education and represents the state's public school board members and the districts they serve.
