Attention Defiance HS juniors --

The state of Ohio pays for juniors to take the ACT during the school day on February 24. It's a set of tests to see how ready students are for college. Some students welcome this free testing opportunity. It typically lasts most of the morning.

However, not every student is interested enough in college or taking the ACT. So, there is an opt-out option. If both you and a parent/guardian sign the opt-out form (sample attached), we will excuse you to remain in your regular classes for that day instead.

If you are interested in taking the state-funded ACT in February, you do NOT need to fill out the form. We will register you.

If you and your parent/guardian choose to opt-out of taking the test, make sure you complete the form  -- and return it to the main office -- before the deadline, Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Copies of the form are available in the main office.

Please share this decision with your parents.
