Welcome to semester two and the new year! Defiance High School’s annual Writing and Art Alive and Kickin’ Contest is here again!

As always, the competition is open to any Defiance high school student—including any Defiance student attending FCCC.

You can use this as an opportunity to get creativity, take some risks, and be recognized for something you are passionate about!

There are three categories :

  • Prose (writing)

  • Art

  • Poetry

The prose entry can include any creative fiction or nonfiction (a short story, play, or an excerpt of a longer work like a scene of a play or a book chapter).

The maximum length for the prose will be 5 pages in Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 space.

Poetry entries can be any poem type but cannot be any more than 5 pages and in the same size, font, and space as the prose category.

Art category entries can include photography, paintings, drawings, or any other 2D medium, as well as 3D works (including jewelry, sculptures, pottery, etc.). All art entries must be photographs only of the artwork sent via email to:

Rory Bright — 26rbright@defianceschools.net Please put “Alive and Kicking” in your subject email so we don’t miss it!

The prizes for art and writing (prose AND poetry are judged and prized separately) are:
