Environmental Field Trip

On Wednesday, October 8, our students had an immersive field trip that brought many of their Earth and Space Science and Life Science concepts to life.

The day began at the Penney Nature Center, where students rotated through a series of hands-on activities to reinforce science concepts. These sessions included delving into Soil Horizons  and Soil Mapping to understand the composition of the Earth's surface, exploring the transformation within the Rock Cycle, and investigating various Grassland and Wetland Creatures.

The afternoon was dedicated to essential community infrastructure. Students first went to the Defiance County Landfill to observe how our community manages and stores waste. They then toured the Defiance Water Treatment Plant, witnessing firsthand the vital process of converting dirty water into clean, reusable water.

A huge thank you to the community members at the Nature Center, Landfill, and Water Treatment Plant who shared their time and expertise to make this real-world learning possible.
