Del Hammon has been a great supporter and fan of Defiance HS athletics as well as being active in many community causes. At the age of 95 years young, Del is the oldest barber in Ohio. He attended a one room school house in Florida, Ohio, and graduated in 1941 from Jewell HS where he played Baseball and Basketball. He rememebers not having money to attend Defiance HS games at the Jr. High field, so he would crawl under the fence to watch or stand on the railroad tracks. He was drafted and served in the Army from 1941 through 1946 in anti tank training and was in charge of an Oklahoma Ammo dump. Del attended Anderson Barber school in Toledo and has been a barber for 70 years as well as a Limo Driver for Loretta's Limousine. When first starting out, haircuts cost .35 cents. Del served on City Council for 8 years, coached Little League Basball and helped start "Art in the Park". Del has been married to his wife, Helen, for 74 years and has two sons. Craig and Douglas and four grand children and 9 great grand children.
