The 1972 Defiance High School graduate played basketball, baseball, and football and also ran cross country at DHS. Shannon scored 727 career points, averaging 13.0 for his career including 19.1 points per game as a senior during the first year Roger Renz was head coach. His career average is 14th in school history. He holds the school record for rebounds in a game with 27, blocked shots in a game with 11 and offensive rebounds in one contest with 12. In baseball, Shannon was a three-year starter at first base and went on the play American Legion baseball, while in football, Shannon was a standout at defensive end for the Bulldogs. Shannon went on to play basketball for one year and lacrosse for four years at Wittenberg University where he was a 1976 graduate, earning a degree in accounting. Shannon lived in Avon Lake for 28 years where he owned and operated Greg Shannon and Associates Accounting Services. Now deceased, Shannon has two children, Eric 34 (Chicago) and Codi 31 (Lakewood, Ohio) along with five grandchildren.
