ST. MARYS --Defiance pushed its Western Buckeye League winning streak to 54 in a row with a 14-1 pounding of St. Marys on Tuesday.

Leading just 2-1, the Bulldogs exploded for eight runs in the third inning. Joe Gentile started the frame with a double and capped it with a run-scoring single. Jacob Moore had a two-run single in the inning after battling back from an 0-2 hole.

"What was nice, is that we gained some momentum from getting out of jam in the bottom of the second inning, when Anthony Kidston struck out two straight batters after St. Marys had gotten a runner to third with just one out," stated Defiance coach Tom Held. "Joe Gentile steps up and gets us going with a double, and Jacob Moore had the hit of the game after battling back from 0-2 to get a two-run single."

Anthony Kidston drove in four runs with a pair of doubles while Gentile had a single and double and Rob Zeigler and Shea Murray two singles each.

Kidston went all five innings allowing two hits and two walks while striking out 11 for Defiance, now 16-1 overall and 4-0 in the WBL.

"To be honest, Anthony hasn't throw that much, in fact Tyler Batt had thrown more innings than AK," Held said. "It's just kind of worked out that way with because of the weather. Anthony has struggled with his command because he hasn't throw all that much, but after the second inning last night, he totally dominated a good hitting St. Marys team. Offensively, they're as good as any team in this league."

The Bulldogs are back in action Thursday at Toledo Central Catholic.

"Right now we're still behind the 8-ball when it comes to the league because of all the games we still have left to play, but anytime you can go on the road and get a win it's big," concluded Held. "Right now the guys are seeing the ball really well and tonight we played another solid game defensively."
