DEFIANCE BASEBALL: BULLDOGS RUN WIN STREAK TO NINE GAMES

TOLEDO -- Defiance broke a 2-2 tie against Toledo Central Catholic with two runs in the top of the sixth in a 5-2 win on the road in baseball action.

The win pushed Defiance's win streak to nine games heading into Western Buckeye League play tonight at home against Van Wert at 5 p.m. at Defiance's Booster Field.

Jacob Moore coaxed a walk to start the top of the sixth inning for Defiance (17-1, ranked No. 2 in the state in Division II in the OHSBCA state poll). With one out, Dom Gentile singled to move Moore to second.

Following a two-out walk to Anthony Kidston that loaded the bases, Joe Gentile reached safely on a throwing error, allowing both Moore and Dom Gentile to score the go-ahead runs.

"J-Boy (Moore) had a heck of an a-b (at-bat) and that got us going," stated Defiance mentor Tom Held. "After we loaded the bases, their third baseman made a nice play on a ball hit by Joe in the hole toward short, he just made a bad throw."

Tyler Batt improved to 5-0 for Defiance, tossing 21/3 innings, allowing no runs and two hits while striking out one and walking none. Kidston earned the save for the Bulldogs.

Rob Zeigler led DHS, which was held to just three hits, with a double. Central Catholic finished with 10 hits in the loss.

"We got outhit 10-3 today, but we benefitted from eight walks and defensively we played very well again against a very good team, concluded Held."
