TIFFIN -- A night after rain put a stop to their Western Buckeye League game against Wapakoneta, the Bulldogs of Defiance rolled to a pair of wins on the baseball diamond after defeating Van Buren 11-0 in six innings and Tiffin Columbian 15-3 in the nightcap.

Weston Rivers threw a no-hitter for Defiance against Van Buren, finishing with 13 K's and just one walk.

"Weston was brilliant ... he'd only thrown six innings all season before today," stated Defiance mentor Tom Held, whose Bulldogs are ranked No. 2 in the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association state poll in Division II. "His breaking ball was sharp and he really got ahead of hitters. It was a tremendous outing by Weston.

The 'Dogs broke open the game in the sixth inning by plating six runs after holding a 5-0 lead.

Anthony Kidston and Austin Yant both homered for DHS in the victory, Rob Zeigler doubled and tripled and Shea Murray smacked four singles.

In the finale, it was a seven-run, seventh inning that helped Defiance pull away to the 15-3 win.

Zeigler earned the win for Defiance (14-1), by gettiong out of jams in the third and fourth, while the Bulldogs also escaped a jam in the fifth. Columbian left the bases loaded in both the third and fourth frames.

"To be honest, the scores from both games are very deceiving," Held said. "Columbian stranded 12. I give Robbie (Zeigler) credit for getting out of jams, while Dom (Gentile) and Tyler (Batt) threw well also.

Joe Gentile had four singles in the second game, while Zeigler added a single and double.

DHS travels to Fairview Monday at 4:30 p.m.
