Welcome to the Defiance Middle School website. We hope this page will provide you with all of the sources of information that is needed for the school year. Defiance Middle School serves students in grades 6th through 8th and has approximately 600 students enrolled. Each student will be offered four core subjects (language arts, math, science, and social studies) that is delivered with a middle school “team” model. We provide numerous co-taught classrooms with our intervention in language arts and math.
The exploratory teachers work with all three grades in elective areas such as band, choir, art, health, computer, music appreciation, career education and physical education. High school credit opportunities exist for qualifying 8th grade students in foreign language and algebra. Our dedicated staff work hard in providing the best education for our students. We focus on preparing our students not only for their success in the classroom, but success out of the classroom as well by educating towards the whole-child. This is done by our BARK program that promotes positive behavior for our students. We are also able to get Chromebooks in the hands of all students, as Defiance Middle School is a one to one school.
Defiance Middle School also provides students with many opportunities to get involved with activities after the school day. We have Quiz Team, a Civic Oration speech contest, Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, and an active Student Council. Our vocal and instrumental music departments are second to none and excel each year in area contests. Students who are interested in athletics also have a well-rounded array of sports from which to choose. Click on our Athletics link for more detailed information.
As a parent, you can keep up with your child's academic progress online. Grades are updated by staff members weekly. We also send home grade cards each quarter. You can also reach out to our staff members through the staff directory on the website. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the office at 419-782-0050.
Go Bulldogs!
Sincerely,
Matthew Carr, Principal
